History of ELHA

first drilling machines
30s - 50s:
The company ELHA originated from a local hardware store around the year 1930. In the beginning a variety of machine tools under the brand name LH, Liemke Hoevelhof, were built for the local wood- and metalworking industry. After the war the company specialized on drill presses which were marketed under the new name ELHA.

60s:
During the 60s the company expanded significantly. The plant in the town center was enlarged with a new administrative and several production buildings. Machine development focussed on radial drilling machines and also assembled the first multi spindle units.70s:
In the 70s the idea of the multi spindle drilling machine was continuously improved. With the use of articulated spindles this concept was developed further. To extend the product line the first rotary dial machines were also designed and built during this time.

80s:
During this time the company ELHA was expanded with the current administrative building and a large assembly structure. The new space was necessary to meet the growing demands of the customers. In the 80s the company increasingly built large special machines ranging from transfer lines to special machines for the machining of the boosters for the Ariane 5 rocket.
The 90s were characterized by a specialization in several areas. For Manufacturing Systems the company developed a competency in machining very large rotary work pieces like bearings and gears. Additionally a heavy twin spindle machining center was developed. During the end of the decade the concept of the Production Module FM 3+X was developed in cooperation with a customer. At the EMO 1997 this machine was presented to the public for the first time and since then has created a new division within the company.

Today:
The new division for Production Modules is exclusively responsible for the FM 3+X, FM 3+X hd and FM 4+X. This machine is specifically configured for the mass production of automotive parts and is currently built in its 5. generation.
The division Manufacturing Systems focuses on solutions for demanding machining tasks. The emphasis is on large round parts and heavy duty machining tasks.
