Field report from Marcel R.
"Due to the final phase of my studies, I decided to go abroad to the USA at very short notice. However, the spontaneity didn't put me at a disadvantage."
ELHA took care of my (Lufthansa) flight from Frankfurt to Detroit and gave me the papers for the travel health insurance I had taken out. My internship company Heller US organised the 40-minute transfer from the airport to Troy and provided me with my own flat for the entire duration of my stay.
I immediately met other interns there, who made it much easier for me to settle in during the first few days. The first working day was of course the big familiarisation day. I was introduced to many colleagues and of course got to know all the people who were always there to help with any questions or problems that arose. The uncertainties I had at the beginning disappeared very quickly when I got to know so many people. For the duration of my stay, I was assigned to the assembly department and was involved in a joint project between ELHA and Heller US, where I was able to use the knowledge I had gained at ELHA to support my US colleagues. My working life was therefore very varied and I was also assigned to work at ELHA's customer "Chrysler".
There was never a dull moment after work. Together with the other interns and our US colleagues, we did something almost every day. Barbecues, visits to outlets, short trips to lakes and sporting events were all part of the after-work plans, for example. All in all, I can look back on a great internship abroad and it was probably a unique opportunity for me to combine work, a new culture and plenty of free time.
For me, it was a unique opportunity to gain new work and cultural experience and to combine this with unforgettable experiences abroad. The language skills I gained and the organisation of everyday life on site have really helped me to develop personally.
