ELHA Racing Team at the Bobby Car Solar Cup 2019

After many hours of screwing, tinkering and assembling, it was time for the second time on 15 September: on your marks, get set, go! The ELHA racing team, a co-operation with the Franz Stock secondary school Hövelhof, started after months of preparation at the Bobby Car Solar Cup Race in Bielefeld. As in the last year In 2019, the team once again consisted of students from the 10th grade technology course. Compared to last year, we were able to improve significantly in 2019: our Solar Bobby Car with the starting number 17 was completely redesigned, optimised in terms of speed and weight, equipped with great features (speedometer, working lights, etc.) and was driven to an excellent 8th place in the skills course by our driver Alexander (16th place in the previous year).

Last year, the former lawn mower was still equipped with a gearbox, which we dispensed with this year. In addition, the drive chain ran perpendicular to the track this year and no longer parallel. For the entire ELHA racing team, it was very important not only to be successful in sporting terms, but also to carry out the work on the sleek vehicle themselves, to develop ideas and to understand all the technical relationships and functions. This year, we stuck to the concept that all our group members (and also teachers from Franz Stock-Realschule) can drive the vehicle and accepted the resulting weight disadvantages of the Solar Bobby Car.

The pupils and the ELHA trainees developed a great solar bobby car and were able to strengthen the cooperation between Franz-Stock-Realschule and ELHA-MASCHINENBAU through creative and close collaboration. Our trainees really enjoyed passing on their knowledge to the interested pupils, who gained practical technical experience and were able to make a great project a success through teamwork. We are delighted with the successful collaboration and look forward to repeating it next year!
