Hi, my name is Sophie 😉
I go to the comprehensive school in Elsen and am currently in year 9.
I applied for a 3-week internship at ELHA Mechanical Engineering. It came to my attention because I know a few people from the company and I was very enthusiastic about the many areas that exist there.
On the first day, I was given a tour of the entire Plant 1 and was amazed at how many machines there are. I then learnt more about the activities of the financial accounting department. This gave me a good insight into the accounting processes and the company's finances.
In the middle of the first week, I got to know the HR department better. This mainly deals with personnel administration, personnel development and recruitment. I was able to help a lot here and gain a good insight into this department.
On Friday, I was allowed to work down at the head office and see what all there is to do in a day. That was a great experience.
The second week began in Plant 2, where I received a very friendly welcome and was given a tour of the design department and the plant. In the design department, I learnt a lot about the profession of "technical product designer". I was allowed to make lots of technical drawings at my workplace and take them home with me.
Last week I got an insight into the purchasing department. This is where products are purchased from order proposal lists, for example. On Tuesday, I supported the employees in warehouse logistics. There I was able to see what happens to the products after they are purchased and how they are stored.
I really enjoyed the internship as it gave me a lot of new experiences and helped me with my future career choice. I also liked the fact that I gained such a comprehensive insight into the company and got to know many areas. I would also recommend every pupil to do the 3-week internship at ELHA Maschinenbau and, just like me, to gain lots of new experiences that will help them choose a career later on.
